An 11-year-old girl was the sole survivor of a plane crash that killed her father as well as two other passengers and the pilot.

The twin-engine plane crashed on Beaver Island in Lake Michigan yesterday, with the girl and a man airlifted to hospital from the wreckage.

Only the girl could be saved and she is now being treated for serious injuries, the current status of which is unknown.

Two dogs were also killed in the Island Airways crash, reports The Petoskey News-Review.

The local newspaper reported that the girl’s father was real estate agent Mike Perdue, while the other two passengers were Kate Leese and Adam Kendall who had just moved to the island and were planning to open a vineyard.

Kate and Adam, who described themselves as “travelers turned farmers,” operated an Instagram account called Life Without Waiting which showed photos of their adventures, including in their Airstream trailer.

On the day of the accident, they shared a photo of their “first family photo” with their dogs saying, “I always want to remember us like this”.

To date, the pilot of the Britton-Norman BN-2A aircraft has not yet been identified.

The plane took off from Charlevoix on the mainland at 1:32 p.m. local time, the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office said, and crashed 15 minutes later at 1:47 p.m. as it approached the Welke airport on the island.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the circumstances of the accident.
