What do we hope to see? Not a lot of surprises. One of the less well-kept secrets of recent years is the mid-engined Z06. The supercar even hid in an ordinary site for a little while in the form of the C8.R race car.
The C8-based Z06 will be powered by the same 5.5-liter flat-cranked V8 as Chevrolet’s Corvette C8.R race car. In racing specs, the engine only produces 500 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, but it is limited by regulations. Chevrolet is expected to unclog the powertrain with a horsepower rating above 600 hp. How much more than 600 hp is the question. The racing car’s 6-speed sequential transmission will be replaced by an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and power will go to the rear wheels via meaty rubber.
The engine will be a howler with a confirmed red line of 8,600 rpm.
A wider stance, perforated fenders, taller cooling ducts, wider tires at all four corners, and aggressive aero aero are all likely on the builds sheet. Some prototypes were spotted with Michelin Sport Cup 2 R tires.
The interior was teased in 2019 with two large red buttons on the steering wheel marked ‘Spec Mode’, as well as carbon fiber inserts replacing leather on some surfaces.
Stay tuned here for the Corvette Z06 debut at noon, when Chevrolet confirms all of those specs and more.
