Toronto Transit Commission plans to recall retired workers to fill vaccination mandate gaps – .

TORONTO – The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is considering recalling retired workers to fill gaps caused by workers not complying with its COVID-19 vaccination mandate at the end of the month.

As part of its vaccination policy, all TTC employees must present full proof of vaccination by October 30.

Last week, the agency said it postponed routine scheduling for operators on transit shifts until November 3 to allow more time to check the vaccination status of all employees.

She is now considering bringing retirees back to fill any shortages.

Spokesman Stuart Green told CP24 on Monday that the recall of retired operators is only “one of the possibilities we are exploring.”

As part of its vaccination policy, all TTC employees must present full proof of vaccination by October 30.

As of October 8, more than 80 percent of workers had shared their status, including 76 percent of unionized employees.

Of those employees, more than 90 percent said they were fully immunized and the rest only received one injection.

The TTC has not yet decided what measures employees who do not show proof of vaccination will face.

The subject of mandatory COVID-19 vaccination has pissed off many employer-employee relationships in Canada and around the world and the TTC is no exception.

For weeks after the TTC announced its policy on August 19, the union advised its 12,000 members to suspend their immunization status due to concerns about the human rights policy.

The union called TTC CEO Rick Leary’s approach “confrontational” and said he “has repeatedly failed to share vital information.”

In response, last week the TTC filed an application with the Ontario Labor Relations Board to have the union’s actions considered an illegal strike.

The next day, the union reversed its position and advised its members to comply with the TTC’s vaccination policy and disclose their vaccination status.
