RAdio host Steve Allen has sent a private apology to Strictly Come Dancing contestant Tilly Ramsay after describing her as a “chubby little thing” live on air.
Allen, 67, came under criticism after telling LBC radio that he missed the 19-year-old’s performances on the BBC show and that his physical appearance was likely linked to “the his father’s kitchen ”.
CBBC presenter Ramsay, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon, hit back on social media, saying she “won’t tolerate people who think it’s okay to comment publicly and look at weight and appearance. from anyone ”.
Allen contacted her earlier this week to apologize, the Daily Star Sunday reports.
On his radio show, Allen had read a comment from a listener telling him the teenager was attending Celebrity MasterChef Australia.
He replied, “Really? Well, she can’t dance well, I’m already bored with her.
“It’s a chubby little thing, isn’t it?” Have you noticed It’s probably his father who cooks, I imagine.
Former Love Island star Dr Alex George, who was named the government’s youth mental health ambassador earlier this year, criticized his comments.
He shared a screenshot of an email he sent to LBC about the incident on Instagram and said he was “absolutely horrified” by the remarks.
Ramsay was also inundated with support from his Strictly co-stars, with It Takes Two host Janette Manrara writing, “How quickly do we forget what hurtful comments can do for someone’s sanity. “
Saturday’s episode of Strictly saw Ramsay grab third place in the standings with 36 points.
After her dance, she spoke of her joy after a “tough week of training”.
