Sony sets 2023 release dates for two new Marvel films
As Venom: let there be carnage continues to bank at the box office, Sony is preparing for the future of its standalone Marvel Universe. Deadline reports that the studio planted flags in 2023 for two mysterious Marvel projects. The Nameless Movies are now slated to hit theaters on June 23, 2023 and October 6, 2023.
The films join the previously announced Kraven the hunter spin-off on Sony’s 2023 slate. As far as we know, that film still opens on January 13, 2023, with the directing of JC Chandor and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role. However, several films currently in development could claim the latter dates in the studio’s schedule. Sony may reserve the October date for Venom 3, since the franchise has proven to be a strong source of income for the fall. Either way, it’s still too early to tell if that’s really the plan.
Sony’s upcoming Marvel list also includes vehicles for Silk, Night watch, Madame Web, and Jackpot, among many others. Last summer, the studio hired Olivia Wilde to direct their own female-centric Marvel movie, but we still don’t know which characters will appear. Sony is also planning a Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse spin-off centered on a team of female characters.
In the meantime, Sony is once again teaming up with Marvel Studios to release Spider-Man: No Path Home December 17th. Will follow Morbius January 28, 2022 and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 October 7, 2022.
