Legends of tomorrow add another member to their team – and this is someone they have time traveled with all along.
In Wednesday’s Season 7 premiere, the Legends found themselves trapped in 1925 after a second, the mysterious Waverider exploded their time vessel. As Constantine’s protege, Astra decided to perform a spell in the hopes of replenishing the exploded parts of the Waverider. His efforts almost worked, but it ended up bleeding from the nose and collapsing just as the rebuilt Waverider began to take shape. After recovering, Astra shared a one-on-one with Spooner, in which she spoke the last word of the spell, unknowingly conjuring up the ship’s AI, Gideon, in the form of flesh and blood.
Now that Gideon is a real person (played by Amy Louise Pemberton, who voiced AI from the pilot), “she’ll force the Legends to reconsider their treatment of her – not that they’ve been mean,” executive producer Phil Klemmer tells TVLine. “But they certainly took her for granted and maybe considered that she wasn’t a full part of the team,” even though she’s been with them from the start.
“Living in this human body is going to be both a joy and a struggle for Gideon,” Klemmer continues. “She’s always been a bit removed from our team, so she’s happy to be in the fold, but at the same time, she’s now plagued by all the dissonance of our legends. She’s always the one who said to herself, “Guys, seriously, stop being so human. Humans are incoherent, emotional and irrational, and now she doesn’t have that distance. Now she’s just one of us, and now she has to learn a lifetime to be human on a crazy crash course.
Even in his bodily form, Gideon “still has a great deal of his AI intelligence,” Klemmer notes. But all of this knowledge in a human brain “creates a bit of dissonance for it as well.”
“His power has always been his intelligence, but now his intelligence is no longer just intelligence. It is also having to integrate the things that she learns as a human, which can also be in contradiction with the things that she believed as an AI, ”explains the EP.
Looking ahead, Gideon will play an important role in the series’ next 100th episode (airing Wednesday, October 27), in which she “is overwhelmed by her new human choices, sending her into a catatonic state,” according to the synopsis. official. When Astra and Spooner enter his mental landscape, they discover that a virus is trying to destroy Gideon’s memories. In trying to stop him, Astra and Spooner stumble upon ‘deleted’ scenes, so to speak, from seasons past, featuring several returning OG legends: Wentworth Miller (as Leonard Snart / Captain Cold), Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter), Victor Garber (Dr Martin Stein / Firestorm), Franz Drameh (Jax / Firestorm), Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer / The Atom), Falk Hentschel (Carter Hall / Hawkman) and Courtney Ford (Nora Darhk).
“We show the secret scenes that only Gideon the computer was there to see,” Klemmer previews. “It’s so much fun to see the secret show that was going on behind the show that aired six years ago. “
