Ronald Koeman forces Ousmane Dembele to admit contract amid Liverpool transfer rumors – .

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that the club are keen to offer Ousmane Dembele a new contract.
The winger’s current terms are set to expire at the end of the campaign and he has recently been linked with a number of clubs including Liverpool.

If Dembele did not agree to an extension with Barcelona before January 2022, then he would be free to talk to clubs abroad with a view to signing a pre-contract and a free transfer this summer.

Liverpool have long been linked with the France international winger, although his stock has shrunk considerably in recent years.

Dembele was considered one of the most exciting prospects in European football when he left Borussia Dortmund in Barcelona in 2017, although a litany of injury issues kept him from carving out a place in the team.

This season he has yet to make an appearance for the Blaugrana as he suffers from a hamstring problem. He should be back in a few weeks.

Nonetheless, Koeman confirmed that the club wanted him to accept a new deal.

“What’s most important is that we want him to stay,” Koeman said of the 24-year-old, per Football Espana.

“It’s important and it has quality. The goal is to renew. Another thing is, if he doesn’t want to renew, we have to talk as a club about the best way forward. Still, we haven’t talked about what our strategy will be if it doesn’t renew. “

Barcelona have moved on to Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann this summer, which means there is a chance for Dembele to grab if he can stay fit.

However, it’s his constant absences for fitness issues that are likely to deter a number of top clubs from stepping up for him if he’s available.
