Rio Ferdinand believes the new owners of Newcastle United should target young England players in the January transfer window rather than top foreign stars.
The Magpies were the subject of a high-profile £ 305million takeover by a Saudi-led consortium last week and the club are now run by one of football’s richest owners .
And Ferdinand – who has played for West Ham, Leeds and Manchester United – told his YouTube show Vibe with five that Newcastle are expected to target some of England’s Euro 2020 stars, mentioning Raheem Sterling, Jesse Lingard and Declan Rice.

Ferdinand says Newcastle should target Raheem Sterling (L) and Declan Rice (R)
The former Manchester United defender has also put Jesse Lingard on a move to Toon
“I’m going to try to do some crazy signings, like huge ones, which I think would be achievable,” Ferdinand said.
“I would look at people like Raheem Sterling. Raheem Sterling does not play regularly, I would go ask him the question. I was going to ask Declan Rice, “What’s going on?
“These two would be the first two on my list, and I would do anything to get them.” And then I would try to get people like Jesse Lingard, who is in and around the Man United squad.
– It’s unrealistic until you ask the question. I would go there to get answers from those type of players and then you will move up your list.

Such is their newfound wealth, Newcastle have been linked with PSG striker Kylian Mbappe, as well as Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.
But Ferdinand insists the Toon should move closer to home for now.
‘[Kylian Mbappe] is just a dream land, but there are people who would be on the outskirts of the Man United squad, the Chelsea squad, the City squad. I would watch players like that, I would be all over these types of players, ”he added,
Ferdinand has also said Newcastle should go for Max Aarons (left) and Conor Gallagher (right)
“And then I would like to find young talent probably from all over the world who you think would be able to mix and blend in with it. Do you know who I would go find now too? I would go crazy for young English talent. The best young English talent.
‘Max Aarons, Norwich U21 right-back. Conor Gallagher, right in there. Let him in. These are two names, straight away, of young children who, I would say, are coming to Newcastle. I want a young English talent.
“Newcastle are an English club, I would like a young nucleus of English players. “
