A Jamaican preacher and 41 of his followers were arrested last week after two people were killed in an alleged “human sacrifice”.
Kevin O. Smith, a self-proclaimed “prophet”, and church members were arrested for slitting the throat of Tanecka Gardner, a 39-year-old office worker, and an unidentified man.
Friends told the Jamaica Observer that Gardner had purchased “essentials” in the weeks leading up to his death, as Smith told his followers a flood was about to strike.
“Even recently, she’s stocked up on kerosene oil and cooking oil,” a friend told The Observer. “She told me the pastor said they had to buy brown rice because something was going to happen.
On the day of the murders, Smith ordered parishioners to dress in white, wrap their cell phones in foil, leave devices at home and attend church, the Mirror reported .
The pastor wrote on Facebook: “L’Arche is charging now! Leave immediately dressed in white… This is a Roman Catholic sacrifice – there will be no survivors. “
According to the Mirror, after Gardner’s death, a man was also slaughtered in an attempt to rid his body of “unclean” blood. Three other people were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
At the scene, police found other potential victims, including naked men and animals, who had been lined up to be next, it was reported.
Authorities are also investigating allegations of child sexual abuse surrounding Smith.
