Portugal drops testing for fully vaccinated UK travelers – .

After 21 weeks in which UK visitors to mainland Portugal were required to get tested before traveling, the Lisbon government has dropped the requirement for fully vaccinated arrivals from the UK.
The Foreign Office notice has been updated with the change to say that no testing is required for travelers from the UK to Portugal “if you have an NHS Covid Pass … or a digital vaccination certificate EU Covid showing that you have been fully vaccinated with an EU Approved Covid-19 Vaccine at least 14 days before your trip ”.

All vaccines administered by the NHS in the UK are approved by the European Union.

Starting with the resumption of international leisure travel on May 17, 2020, Portugal was for a short time the only major European holiday destination on the UK’s ‘green list’ -om which the quarantine did was not required.

The Lisbon government initially insisted on a PCR test before leaving the UK to mainland Portugal, typically costing between £ 80 and £ 100, even for fully vaccinated travelers.

The demand was then reduced to a cheaper and faster lateral flow test. But due to very confusing information on the Visit Portugal website, many British holidaymakers mistakenly believed that they were exempt from the requirement to test if they could show proof of vaccination.

As southern European countries vie for the UK’s autumn and winter arrivals, it is now.

Jet2 warns passengers that a proper NHS certification – online or in print – is required. “Please note that your paper business card in the size of a Covid-19 vaccination business card is not an acceptable form of proof of vaccination status and cannot be used for entry,” the company warns.

Unvaccinated adults and children 12 years of age or older must continue to take a lateral flow test within 48 hours of arriving in mainland Portugal.

The country’s Atlantic islands – Madeira and the Azores – did not require testing before arrival.
