Petition to save mountain lion escaped in France as police seek to kill – .

Thousands of people have signed a petition to save an escaped puma that French police are ordered to shoot on sight.

Agents from northern France are looking for the big cat in the Pas-de-Calais region where the towns of Boulogne and Arras are located.

French media have identified the escaped animal as a North American puma, but it is not known where it escaped from.

The Pas-de-Calais prefecture indicated that the feline had been seen several times between Frévent and Auxi-le-Château.

Police and animal specialists have found traces of a large cat.

Wildlife authorities have now received permission to shoot the animal.

A petition has been launched on to save the animal’s life, already gathering more than 40,000 signatures. He said the animal was considered an American puma.

The petition calls for justice for endangered species.

“In the United States, the puma is one of the endangered species, several branches of which have already disappeared from the continent,” he says.

“It is also forbidden to deliberately kill a puma, but this law cannot be applied on French soil, the puma not being an endemic species on our territory.

“At the present time, the prefect has therefore authorized the killing of a ‘dangerous’ animal which has caused no disturbance to the ecosystem. “

The petition specifies that in the event of the animal being slaughtered, “despite the fact that there was no attack”, the prefect will be held to account.

“That is why today I ask for justice to be done,” he said.
