PC Metropolitan Police Officer Adam Zaman Charged With Rape

A Metropolitan Police officer on duty has been charged with rape, the force said.

PC Adam Zaman, 28, who is based in the Eastern Zone Unit of Command, was charged by City of London Police today.

The 28-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

The charge relates to an incident which allegedly occurred in the City of London on Sunday when Zaman was not on duty.

He was arrested the next day.

The Met’s Professional Standards Branch was notified and PC Zaman was suspended.

Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Trevers, police commander of the Eastern Zone Command Unit, said the force “acted quickly” when the allegation was made.

He said: “I recognize that the public will be concerned to learn that a police officer on duty has been charged with such a serious offense.

“We absolutely share this concern.

“We acted swiftly when this allegation was brought to our attention and we have fully supported what continues to be a thorough investigation by City of London Police detectives.

“Specialized support is provided to the complainant.

“PC Zaman has now been indicted and it is important that the criminal proceedings can take their course.

“Nothing should be said or reported that could endanger the integrity of these proceedings. “

The case was also referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
