“There are 306 new cases of # COVID19, 202 cases involve individuals who are not fully vaccinated or have unknown vaccination status and 104 are fully vaccinated individuals,” tweeted Health Minister Christine Elliott.

12 more deaths brought the total number of lives lost in Ontario to 9,804.

According to immunization data provided by the province, hospital intensive care units were caring for 66 unvaccinated, six partially vaccinated and 14 fully vaccinated patients.

Provincial public health data indicates that 83% of the eligible Ontarians are fully immunized, 5% have received only one dose, and 12% are unvaccinated.

Ontario is expected to issue a new improved vaccine certificate by October 22 to replace current vaccine receipts that allow fully vaccinated residents access to places like movie theaters and indoor dining rooms at restaurants.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said on Wednesday it was “shameful” Premier Doug Ford waited so long to present a digital vaccine passport.

She said the Ford government then decided it would develop its own version of a vaccine passport when some provinces had already set it up and operational.

“Why he had to recreate the wheel, I still don’t know,” Horwath said.
