Ontario government asks for patience after COVID-19 vaccine certificate QR code site crash – .

TORONTO – Some 215,000 Ontarians successfully downloaded the QR code for their COVID-19 vaccine certificate Monday morning and they should consider themselves lucky.

The Department of Health told CTV News Toronto that a technical glitch caused the site to crash for “a few users” hoping to access the new document on launch day.

“We are currently experiencing high volumes of downloads and a few users have encountered a brief technical glitch,” a ministry spokesperson said in an email.

The improved system, which provides scannable documents to allow faster entry into settings requiring proof of vaccination, officially went into effect on Friday and some users were able to upload their codes last week.

Residents born between January and April had access to the enhanced vaccination certificate through the province’s COVID-19 website on Friday, followed by other cohorts who had access over the weekend and access to the province wide today.

Among the “few” users affected by the problem, some said they were greeted with an error message after entering their health card data.

On Monday, the Department of Health (MOH) said 215,000 residents had downloaded their code today, including the 2.4 million receipts downloaded in total.

It is not known how many of the remaining 8.4 million fully vaccinated Ontarians were affected by the crash.

In light of the technical issue – which the health ministry said had been resolved earlier today – the province is asking people to be patient when seeking access to the document that will allow them to enter the Most non-essential settings such as gymnasiums, theaters and restaurant dining rooms.

“It’s exciting that so many Ontarians are eager to download their official QR code enhanced vaccine receipt,” the province added.

It should be noted that fully vaccinated residents can continue to use the receipts issued to them when the system went into effect on September 22 if they cannot access their QR code. Businesses that require proof of vaccination should accept this previous version of the vaccination certificate, although it is no longer accessible through the province’s online portal.
