Manchester United Women could make their first-team debut for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s daughter Karna in their Continental Cup match in Durham on Thursday night.

Karna, a striker like her father, joined United’s women’s academy in 2019. She played for local teams in Norway while he was manager of Molde and moved to England when he took charge of Old Trafford in 2018.

The 18-year-old scored four goals in the academy’s 7-1 win over Bristol last week and has eight goals in four games this season. Solskjaer is often seen in the stands at Moss Lane academy ground in Altrincham supporting his daughter, but he is unlikely to be there on Thursday night.

Manager Marc Skinner has revealed that Solskjaer Snr had been in contact with him when he was appointed boss of the women’s team in July.

He said: “I emailed him and within 20 minutes he responded and said, ‘I can’t wait to meet you, welcome to the club. I will have coffee with you at some point and we can incorporate some ideas ”.

United were drawn in a tough League Cup qualifying group with women’s Super League clubs Manchester City, Everton and Leicester.

But Skinner could rotate his squad for the clash with the Durham Championship team and bring in Karna.

He said: “It gives me a good opportunity to see players who haven’t played so many minutes but have shown some quality in training. “
