Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has railed against “lies” in the fallout from Manchester United’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool.
Paul Pogba claimed to have posted a report on his social media accounts that he snubbed Solskjaer over the humiliation was a ‘big lie’ and United’s official Twitter account endorsed Pogba’s post.

United’s board have considered sacking Solskjaer following Liverpool’s humiliation – their third loss in the last four Premier League games – but have resisted as they have no succession plan.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Tottenham on Saturday, Solskjaer said the United players had “gone to the trenches” in response to their fifth loss in the last nine games.

“Well, why shouldn’t I be?” I talk to you a lot, ”Solskjaer replied when asked how he was. “It was a tough week, of course we had to deal with the result and the performance against Liverpool which we know weren’t good enough and that’s something footballers have to deal with.

“That’s why we are in this game, you have to look forward to the next game, make sure you are ready for this game and when you get to this next game, solve what was difficult and the problems earlier.

“We had a good week, a good week on the training ground, I have to say.

“We need a reaction and it is also my job to put the players in the right frame of mind, I am responsible for the reaction, the result, the performance. We worked on the pitch, we worked on everything that needs to be sorted out for a footballer.

“It’s not just the state of mind, it’s the approach, the strategy, the game plan, the tactics, technically we’ve had a good week and I feel the boys are ready to give the best of themselves, as they always do. Of course, nothing was done. plan (against Liverpool) and it was far from our best.

” I think [the criticism] affects everyone, I spoke about this last week, I think Mikel Arteta said something about what we have to deal with, as managers in high profile situations, and that’s what we we are used.

“I am more focused than ever. I had players who came to me. For example, when Paul came up to me angry we expect to be criticized because with hands up the performance was not good enough you hear about it from the right, left and center.

“We cannot accept when lies are made up. Paul told me what he posted on his social media account. We’re better than that, as a group, the culture is better here, the environment is better, when it’s blatant lies they have to stand up and say it Opinions and reports, okay but don’t make it up lies about me.

“The players come in, real professionals, come in, good people. Like I said, we have the environment in and around the place, we have a lot of respect for each other.

“When you’re criticized the way you do, you walk into the trenches with your teammates, and that reaction I’ve seen this week. Whatever this club has been through before, it’s about moving on with courage, self-confidence, staying together and this group has done it. “
