Norwich City goalkeeper Dan Barden has been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

The 20-year-old is on loan to Livingston, the Scottish Premiership team, but will now be spending time away from football.

Norwich said: “After the initial diagnosis, Barden has since undergone follow-up testing and will continue a closely monitored treatment program for the period ahead. “

Barden said: “It has been a very difficult and difficult time, but the support of my family, friends and colleagues has helped me through the last few weeks.

“I cannot thank the medical services in Norwich and Livingston enough, and everyone at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

“The speed at which everything has moved has been insane, but everyone has been absolutely brilliant with me.

“Daniel Farke and Livingston manager David Martindale were also very supportive.

“The initial diagnosis was a real shock to me, but the good news is that we caught it early and the prognosis and next steps were all positive.

“I am optimistic and have a positive mindset. I am convinced that I will be able to beat him and that I will be back soon to do what I love.

“I want to thank everyone around me for their support. I know the coming period will be difficult and I would ask for privacy at this point for myself and my family. Whenever possible, I will do what I can to update on my progress.

“Thank you once again for the support. Goodbye. “

Norwich said Barden “will continue a closely monitored treatment program over the coming period”.

Norwich City sporting director Stuart Webber said: “Everyone in Norwich City wishes Dan a speedy recovery.

“Our love and thoughts are with him and his family as he begins this last challenge of his life.

“Dan is part of our family and we care for our own. He knows we are with him every step of the way.

“The care and attention Dan has received so far has been first class. We thank everyone who took care of him and we are grateful to Livingston for acting on Dan’s symptoms and alerting us. “

“We look forward to welcoming Dan back to Carrow Road and the Lotus Training Center. ”
