These questions and more are covered in this PBS special during an in-depth 1-hour profile on Musk. The majority of the program focuses on Musk’s ability to take an excessive amount of risk in the aerospace and automotive industries to become the dominant player in both arenas. Musk’s story takes us back to his childhood and delves into his daring and awe-inspiring plans for the future.
To get some perspective, PBS interviewed former SpaceX Director of Space Operations Garrett Reisman; Tim Fernholz, author of “Rocket Billionaires: Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and the New Space Race”; Lori Garver, former NASA Assistant Administrator and author of “Bureaucrats and Billionaires: The Race to Save NASA”; and Anna Crowley Redding, author of “Elon Musk: A Mission to Save the World”.
Tim Higgins, Wall Street Journal reporter and author of “Power Play: Tesla, Elon Musk and the Bet of the Century” also features prominently in the episode. Due to EVANNEX’s long history in the Tesla community, PBS sent a production team to our premises and interviewed me (along with my dad, Roger Pressman). We commented on Elon Musk’s saga – much like we often do in the column you’re reading right now.
Regardless, most of Musk’s profiles in mainstream media tend to be hit songs – full of FUD and fueled by nefarious interests. After all, Elon is disrupting some (very angry) behemoths in the industry. PBS, which is not beholden to advertising interest, seems to be giving Musk a good shot. Whatever you think of Elon, this is a must-see TV.
Check your local PBS listings to watch it on the Home Tube. Or, feel free to watch the entire episode (right here) below.
