His second-half goal completed a clinical opener from Sadio Mane, his 100th in the top flight, and a hat-trick from Roberto Firmino at Vicarage Road as the Reds maintained an unbeaten start until 2021-22.

After the game, Salah spoke to BT Sport about his performance, his remarkable personal form and which of his last two club goals was the best.

Read the interview below …

The series of invincibility continues. You had a grip on the game from the start and you never let go today, right?

I think we didn’t want to start [like] the game against City, so we were talking in the locker room that we have to start the game well – and I think that’s what we did.

The goals were really very special. Are we talking about yours?

I think all the goals were very important. Bobby did a great job today and scored a hat-trick, congratulations to him. Sadio also scored a nice goal. All the goals were very important.

Did you score a better goal than that?

Last game maybe! I don’t know which one was better, this one or City’s. Every time I’m in the box, I try to give the ball to someone to score, or I score on my own. It’s always about the team. I always try to play for the team. The most important thing today is that we scored good goals, we all scored in front. Hopefully we can continue like this.

In your personal form right now, are you feeling as lively as ever?

I don’t know, I’m just trying. Sometimes I don’t have the chance to score goals. I just try every time to give 100% of what I have and help the team. Sometimes I’m lucky, sometimes I’m not. But I feel confident right now, I feel like I’m scoring goals, helping the team to score points, which is most important.

And at the top of the board, are you going to be in that battle until the end of the season?

With a bit of luck. I hope we can win the championship and also go for the Champions League. It’s important for a team like Liverpool, a club like Liverpool to fight for everything.
