Impact wrestling (October 21, 2021) featured the Bullet Club in a slimy No.1 contender finish, Mickie James returning to the Impact Zone ring and a final showdown between Christian Cage and Josh Alexander on the comeback show. house for On the road to glory.
Mickie James has the chance to put the icing on the cake of his career by winning the Knockouts Championship from Deonna Purrazzo at On the road to glory October 23. Let’s start with the beginning. James had to step into the Impact Zone ring for the first time in six years to complete his half of the Pick Your Poison challenge. Purrazzo managed to defeat James’ choice of Masha Slamovich a few weeks ago at Knockout Knockdown. James was on Impact wrestling to compete with Savannah Evans power.
At a pivotal moment, James was on a roll with a flying double knee. It was then that Purrazzo decided to make his presence known with a full musical entry. Evans took advantage of the distraction to crush with a full slam from Nelson. James regrouped to rally with two headers and a DDT to claim the victory. It was a tough outing, but James proved she still has the skills to win the Knockouts’ top prize.
Part of the story between James and Purrazzo was a no-contact clause leading up to their PPV fight. It happened after Purrazzo visited James’ horse farm for a cinematic brawl. After James’ victory, Purrazzo rushed into the ring to provoke James with a nudge. It was only a ruse for the Drama King to attack from behind with a clothesline. Purrazzo grabbed James’ head to chat, but I’m not sure James was conscious enough to understand.
Behind the scenes, Scott D’Amore wasn’t taking Purrazzo’s plan lightly. He blew up his stack against Purrazzo by violating his decree with cheap antics. D’Amore threatened to strip Purrazzo of the title, but preferred to see her lose him in a kick to James’ ass to On the road to glory. D’Amore also added for good measure that he will suspend Purrazzo and the Drama King forever if he gets involved with the PPV.
Let’s walk through the rest of the show from start to finish.
Candidate # 1: Bullet Club vs. FinJuice fluky finish. (Full details.) The ref has taken a lump. The deputy referee came out to continue the match. In the end, there was a double roll-up. Juice Robinson pinned Hikuleo as legal men, and Chris Bey pinned David Finlay to the side. The problem was that both umpires were counting both pins at the same time. The resurrected referee assumed Bey and Finlay were still the legal men and was adamant his call was correct. No official winner was declared, and the argument was picked up behind the scenes. Scott D’Amore ultimately dictated that the tag team title game would now be a three-way game with the Good Brothers defending gold at On the road to glory.
Tenille Dashwood & John Skyler defeated Jordynne Grace & Fallah Bahh & Chelsea Green & Crazzy Steve in a triple threat. This tag match thrilled the six finalists of the Impact Digital Media Championship. This fight will be played on On the road to glory first part. Skyler pushed Bahh off the turnbuckles. Steve hit a DDT on Bahh, but Skyler took Steve out of the ring. Dashwood leapt to the Spotlight dropkick for the win.
The silence of a Rhinoceros. (Full details.) Rhino had to address the Impact Zone about his choice of being Heath’s best friend or joining Violent by Design. Before Rhino could speak, Heath interrupted him. Heath tried to break through and even made Rhino smile by making himself Rhino Uncle for Heath’s children. Eric Young and VBD have come to roll back Rhino. Deaner attacked Heath. Rhino stepped in to remove Deaner, then Rhino walked out of the ring, leaving Heath outnumbered for a beating. The mystery remains whether or not Rhino will appear as Heath’s partner against VBD at On the road to glory.
Minoru Suzuki will soon be at the Impact.
Brian Myers was furious at the recent losses, so he cut Manny Lemons and Sam Beale out of the Learning Tree lessons.
Lawyer RD Evans represented the Inspiration in signing his contract for the Knockouts title game against champions Rosemary & Havok. Rosemary wanted to sign the contract with blood, but she agreed to use a pen.
Trey Miguel a battu Alex Zayne. Trey rallied with a Meteora double knee for the win. Subsequently, Steve Maclin attacked to make a statement on the X-Division Championship bout at On the road to glory. El Phantasmo arrived flanked by the Bullet Club to beat Maclin and Trey.
Chat-chat for the world title. The main segment of the event was a final promotional exchange between Josh Alexander and Christian Cage. Christian doubted the challenger’s ability to control his emotions when under pressure. Alexander again lost his temper and shot for a takedown. Security failed to separate the two, so the locker room emptied for help.
The Impact continues to confuse me a bit with the main event dispute. Josh Alexander was designed as a great babyface option to become the face of the Impact. The profile article on his rise in the industry and the hardships he experienced during his career has been very effective in generating ingrained interest in impact world championship challenger Christian Cage at On the road to glory. This video is worth taking the time to watch.
However, the Impact muddied the waters by asking Alexander to attack harmless ribs last week. This week Alexander has fallen low for a double low blow, simply because he can’t control his emotion. This gives Alexander a gentle appearance and gives credence to Christian’s arguments about breaking down under pressure. It puts me in a difficult position as a fan. I want to lean on the real person of Alexander, but the character of Alexander puts me off.
I hope it will all become clear after On the road to glory. Maybe Alexander loses and still has some work to do to reach the top. Maybe Alexander swerves for a cheat win to go all-in. There are options for his behavior to make sense.
