Thanks to etheir appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Guardians of the Galaxy are now household names. Today everyone loves Star-Seigneur, Drax, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and, of course, Groot. Before the first movie, however, Marvel Studios had a isdea to present these then-characters largely unknown to fans in a rather unconventional way.
Driven by a story new History of Marvel Studios delivered, guardians of the galaxy director James Gunn explained on Twitter that back before the first of 2014 Guardians, Marvel was planning to make four Guardians short films (called “One-Shots » in the MCU) which would introduce each of the main characters. Marvel would then place three ahead of the three upcoming Marvel films leading up to Guardians (almost in a Type court Pixar/Pixar way), with the fourth placed before Guardians himself. The first three were Rocket / Groot, Drax and Gamora, while the fourth was Star-Lord. Gunn says only the Rocket / Groot short, which told the story of their meeting, was ever writes yet. It was also fully scripted and Alan Tudyk had a role. The star-Lord One was basically just the opening now of guardians of the galaxy, in which Peter loses his mother and then go into space with Yondu.
“We didn’t end up doing it because I realized that it was ridiculous for me to write and direct 4 short films at the same time as I was preparing a huge world-building film. ” Gunn tweeted. “It was really hard for me to admit it was too much for me and I was sad to decide that I couldn’t do them (especially Rocket & Groot). But, you know, maybe someday!
Since, however, Gunn achieved two Guardians films, with a third on the way, helped oversee a guardians of the galaxy theme park ride (with a second on the way), and crossed out a special upcoming holiday, not to mention always have an entrance when the characters appear in movies like Avengers: Infinity War Where Thor: Love and thunder.
We will then see all the Guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, who start filming soon and is out 5 mai 2023. Star-Lord (at least) will also appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, released on July 8, 2022.
