Liam Delap gives Man City fitness boost plus more injury news and return dates – .

Liam Delap has taken a big step towards recovering from his injury woes at the start of the season by joining Manchester City first team ahead of their trip to face Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Delap, 18, missed the preseason and the start of the campaign with an ankle injury but was able to come back for three U23 appearances. However, he suffered a setback earlier this month, raising fears of a longer term sacking, although MEN Sport reported last week that his return was expected in a few weeks.

Now Delap was a welcome face in training on Monday as City’s side prepared to face Club Brugge in Belgium in the Champions League. City said Delap “continues to regain peak sharpness.”

Although Delap will not be part of the traveling squad for this game, the Under-19s will face their Club Brugge counterparts in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday, possibly giving Delap a first playing-time opportunity, although its long-term recovery is a priority.

Over the weekend, he posted on Instagram a photo of himself depicting City with the “soon” emoji, suggesting his return may be near.

In other injury news, Ferran Torres remains the only long-term absentee with a fractured metatarsus contracted in international service that is expected to keep him from coming out for “two and a half to three months.”

John Stones has not been named to the squad to travel to Brugge this week, but MEN Sport understands it is for personal reasons rather than injury or illness. His return date is unknown.

Ilkay Gundogan and Aleks Znchenko are back and available after their respective injuries, while Ederson and Gabriel Jesus are also available after missing Burnley’s victory due to a late return from international service.
