Arsenal welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates tonight as the Gunners look to build on last Monday’s equalizer momentum against Crystal Palace. Alexandre Lacazette came off the bench to nip a 2-2 draw, and while it was far from the Gunners’ best performance, there was some positive to take as Mikel Arteta’s side extended their unbeaten run in five-game championship, after losing all of their opening three.

Villa suffered the opposite trend with back-to-back defeats including a spectacular late goal that saw Wolves make a thrilling comeback to win 3-2 over rivals West Midlands. This means Dean Smith’s side are now 13th in this game, one place and one point behind Arsenal in the Premier League table.

The preparation for the match saw Arteta asking questions about his young midfielder Emile Smith Rowe, who Aston Villa inquired about this summer. “Any club has the right to investigate a player when they think they have the financial power to have it, they are entitled to it,” Arteta said on Friday. “So there was communication between the clubs and we made it clear that Emile was not for sale. It is a big part of what we try to do and of our future. He’s really happy where he is and I’m so glad to have him.
