CHICAGO – Times have changed for Derrick Rose.

During her first stint as a Knick, Rose was planning to retire in 2016-17. Now Rose is talking about playing maybe into his 40s and making a stunning reference to Tom Brady on Thursday morning in his hometown. It was a surprising comment considering his multiple major knee surgeries.

Rose is 33 years old. Brady is 44 years old.

On the morning of “Joakim Noah Night” – when the Bulls were scheduled to honor the old center with the Knicks in town – Rose was asked if he was thinking of his own ceremony on days like this.

“No, I’m trying to back out,” Rose told the United Center after the shooting. “I hope I’ll try to play this thing with Tom Brady, play as long as possible, make sure I’m really taking care of my body. And if I play, play with joy. I no longer need to score 30 points per night to complete the game.

“I can go out, do whatever I have to do. I have a great supporting cast with Ju (Julius Randle) and everything in the starting five, even the guys who are on the bench, we have a good rhythm. “

Indeed, Rose, who signed a three-year contract in August, is reborn in New York City during his second stint here which began last February when the Young Pistons dumped him in a trade for Dennis Smith Jr.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau has suggested Rose and Noah – former Bulls teammates – are like “brothers.” But they also played a season with the Knicks. Rose was in a different place at the time and couldn’t take advantage of it. Neither has Noah, who’s still on the Knicks’ books this season after receiving an additional supply.

“To tell you the truth, I can’t even think of Jo when I was going through what I was going through there, brah,” Rose said. – It was a whirlwind, brah. I, who was learning who I was when I was young, was trying to find out if I still wanted to play. Go through my injuries and everything. I was going through a lot. Thinking about him was too much on my plate at the time. “

Rose took a brief leave of absence from the Knicks that season without letting the franchise know and he confirmed he was considering retiring. Now Rose is thinking 10 years older.
