Kaapo Kakko was placed on the injured list on Sunday with an upper body injury.

Rangers coach Gerard Gallant has said he expects the 20-year-old forward to miss at least the remainder of a four-game road trip that continues to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday. (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, SN, TVAS, MSG, NHL HABITENT). They will visit the Nashville Predators on Thursday and the Ottawa Senators on Saturday to conclude the trip.

The Rangers will be home for two games next week, hosting the Calgary Flames on October 25 and the Columbus Blue Jackets on October 29.

Kakko played 6:16 before the end of his last shift with 36 seconds left in the first period of a 3-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. He was hit by the Canadiens defenseman Alexandre Romanov at 13:49 from the first and hit Romanov seven seconds later.

Ryan Strome did not participate in an elective practice due to an absence related to the NHL COVID-19 protocol that prevented the center from playing on Saturday. Morgan Barron was recalled from Hartford from the American Hockey League.

Montreal Canadiens

Mike Hoffmann could make his debut for the Canadiens against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday or the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

The forward, who signed a three-year contract, was injured during the offseason before arriving in Montreal. He took part in his first training session with the team on Saturday.
