Jurgen Klopp was on hand with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi claim Mo Salah – .

Mohamed Salah is currently the best player in the world.

In the past, a statement like this usually became the starting point for a long and tedious debate in which fans of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo crammed with their counter-arguments.

But right now, there isn’t – at least there shouldn’t be – much debate about it. Fortunately, for those who are tired of the seemingly endless GOAT debate, the Liverpool star player is in the shape of his life and no one else is close to his level just yet.

Jurgen Klopp may not be the most impartial observer on the subject, but he is spot on.

“He’s definitely one of the best in the world right now,” Klopp said at his press conference following Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Watford on Saturday.

“It’s not for me to say who’s the best. But for me he is the best.

“I see him every day and maybe that makes it easier for me. But there is [Robert] Lewandowski there and people like that, Ronaldo always scores like crazy, Messi always performs at a world class level.

“And more will come. But right now, he’s sure to top this list.

There are several ways you can save Klopp’s case. First of all: the numbers.

His superb goal against Watford means Salah has now scored 10 goals in 10 games this season. He also has four assists to go with his goals.

This makes him the Premier League’s top scorer, alongside Leicester striker Jamie Vardy.

Salah has failed to score in a single game so far this season. He has been extremely consistent and has had a direct impact on his team: Liverpool are undefeated in all competitions so far in 2021/22.

By comparison, Ronaldo has five goals and no assists in seven appearances for Manchester United. Messi has a goal and no assist in five for Paris Saint-Germain.

Lewandowski has 11 goals and an assist in nine games for Bayern Munich.

The Polish goal machine could currently surpass Salah in quantity, but what about the quality of Egyptian goals?

This is where Salah shines in the race – if you even consider that there is one.

Quite simply, Salah has scored two of the Premier League’s most memorable goals in consecutive games.

Thanks to the international break, fans have spent the past two weeks reflecting on Salah’s display of genius as he scored a unique, world-class goal in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

The way he spins Joao Cancelo. The way he beats Aymeric Laporte. And the way he finds the corner of Ederson’s net. Every facet is anchored in the memory of Liverpool fans.

Now they can enjoy reruns of similar beauty work against Watford. His inventiveness, quick feet, skill level and poise are out of the ordinary during the strike at Vicarage Road, which showed a player bursting with confidence.

The way he stays cool despite being surrounded by a crowd of Watford players. The way he breaks free with the most subtle use of his skills.

The way he handles the ball. The way he sits Craig Cathcart. And, finally, the way he strokes his left foot mark in the bottom corner.

It all came after he had already played a sumptuous ball crossing the outside of the foot into Sadio Mane to bring the score to 1-0 in the opening stages.

Salah has long been in the upper echelons of world football. But its recent unprecedented purple spot really pushed it into the stratosphere. No one is following.

Let’s go back to Klopp to hammer home the point.

“The consistency that it offers, maybe people are just starting to see it, but it’s always been there,” he said.

“He’s been playing for us for five seasons now and it’s absolutely amazing the way he’s played since he’s been here.

“He’s been in the top five in the world since he’s been at Liverpool and now he’s the best right now.

“The big problem with Messi and Ronaldo is that nobody doubted it for years. But Mo has been on top for years too and there is still a lot to come from him because of his envy.

“He just wants to perform at the highest level. “

World-class goals that you can’t imagine anyone else scoring. Visionary assistants with the perfect thumb. Silky touches. Ridiculous close control. Countless examples of exceptional quality. Unprecedented moments of exhilaration. Rinse and repeat, week after week.

Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world. Debate over.
