The film, as you probably know, starred Kate Beckinsale alongside John Cusack – but director Peter Chelsom recently told Insider that Beckinsale isn’t the only one vying for the role of Sara Thomas.

It turns out that Jennifer Aniston initially met with Chelsom to discuss Sara’s role.

Chelsom said he ” [remembers] Aniston came to meet about the role: “I remember when she came in she said, ‘I do a romantic comedy once a week’ she was on. Friends at the time, so she clearly had other things on her plate and it was her decision not to. “

“She had come to meet me in good faith without an offer,” he continued, “but we would certainly have made an offer to her if she had wanted to make it. “

Aniston wasn’t the only actor who almost played the part of Sara. Chelsom also said Carla Gugino “is very close” to landing the role.

Claire Forlani was also in consideration.

So the next time you vegetate for another round of Serendipity, just remember: this could have been the one and only Rachel Green in mind – that is, if Aniston wasn’t busy playing Rachel Green herself.
