An unlikely rivalry developed between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Montreal Canadiens and it peaked.

After a 4-1 win for Carolina in Montreal, the Hurricanes social team destroyed the hearts of every Canadiens fan with a handful of characters.

The website no longer exists, but the web archives have made it history on the Internet. This is yet another example of one of the top team’s Twitter accounts pushing the envelope deeper into Montreal’s chest.

Small or shiny?

To make the start of the season even worse for the Canadians – who are useless in their first five games – a familiar face and center of heat between the two clubs scored the Hurricanes’ third goal.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi was a member of the Canadiens just a few months ago, but after an offer from the Hurricanes slipped onto general manager Marc Bergevin’s desk, he decided not to match him. Instead, he chose to collect the draft picks and spend them on a more established but older center in Christian Dvorak.

Unfortunately, the Habs fans at the Bell Center did not take Kotkaniemi’s comeback lightly and booed him loudly. Even the Canadiens’ Twitter account took it badly.

It was Kotkaniemi’s first goal and first point in three games for the start of the season. The two modern rivals will once again have the chance to push the theater further on December 30.
