French authorities arrested a British trawler and gave a verbal warning to others fishing in their waters.

In a tweet, the French Ministry of the Navy said: “This Wednesday, two English ships were fined during classic checks off Le Havre.

“The first did not conform spontaneously: verbalization. The second did not have a license to fish in our waters: diverted to the wharf and handed over to the judicial authority.

This is the latest development in an ongoing dispute between the two countries over fishing rights in each other’s waters.

France says its fishermen are still waiting for half of the licenses allowing them to use British waters, as promised in the Brexit deal.

Yesterday, the country released a list of sanctions that could be applied from November 2 unless sufficient progress is made to resolve the conflict.

France could step up border and health checks on incoming British goods, deny fishing boats access to certain ports and tighten controls on trucks, the French Ministries of the Navy and European Affairs said in a joint statement. .
