Paris Saint-Germain supporters will be banned from traveling to Marseille for the Ligue 1 match on Sunday after several French matches have been marred by violence in recent weeks, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

“The matches away from the PSG club often disturb public order” while “some” Marseille supporters “often display violent behavior,” said the ministry.

Individual or group travel by PSG supporters will also be prohibited from midnight Saturday because relations between the clubs “have been marred by animosity for several years,” he added.

The move comes after riot police and security personnel had to intervene to stop fan clashes or acts of hooliganism during a series of Ligue 1 matches last month that left dozens injured.

Marseille has been involved in the violence more than once.

Earlier this month, supporters at Stade Vélodrome threw fireworks, smoke bombs and other projectiles at supporters of Turkish club Galatasaray, sparking clashes during and after the match.
