Edinson Cavani wants Manchester United to get back on track in this crucial week.

Cavani was absent in United’s loss to Leicester City due to playing for Uruguay less than 48 hours previously.

The forward is hoping to be available for this week’s Champions League game with Atalanta at Old Trafford.

Cavani aims to inject some positivity into a United squad. It comes at a crucial time, with ESPN reporting that the atmosphere in the locker room has remained “flat” after recent poor form.

On Monday, Cavani sent a very simple message to Instagram, of himself wearing a United shirt, with the word ‘Vamos’, which translates to ‘Let’s go’.

Installation of Cavani

The last game Cavani was available for, he started. It was against Everton and there was an almighty fury in the media over Cristiano Ronaldo being left out.

United drew 1-1, but won 1-0 when Cavani was on the pitch.

But it’s still not a good idea to drop Cristiano Ronaldo for a crucial Champions League game, especially with Solskjaer under pressure from fans and the media.

So Cavani would either have to be picked wide or there would be a formation change to a 3-5-2.

A Ronaldo and Cavani two up front could work well, but it’s just as likely that United would complement Ronaldo with a younger player like Marcus Rashford or Mason Greenwood, who don’t otherwise fit into the system.

The most likely scenario is that Cavani will be on the bench and used as an impact substitute for this game.

How long he will be happy with this is a big question. There is another huge game against Liverpool this weekend where the same dilemma will arise and then other big games against Tottenham, Atalanta and Manchester City.

Right now Cavani is back and ready to try to make an impact, even if United use him. His cause isn’t helped by his own underwhelming form, with no goals in eight appearances for club and country.

Given that he was not present for the weekend’s disaster against Leicester, just finding him as a new face in the dressing room could have a big impact as United look to get back on track.
