Eddie Howe at center of Newcastle United ‘talks’ as Steven Gerrard vote takes a new turn – .

After all, ex-Celtic leadership contender Eddie Howe could have a shot at landing the Newcastle job.
The former Bournemouth boss has been out of work since leaving the Cherries after their relegation in 2020.

Howe looked destined to be Parkhead’s next blunder, but after a three-month chase he changed his mind at the 11th hour.

Celtic opted for Ange Postecoglou instead, but nearly five months after the club admitted the hunt was over for the Englishman, Howe still has not found a club.

But that could change if he beats the undoubtedly prestigious competition to lead the St James’ Park team into a rich new era.

Steve Bruce is on the brink as the new Saudi-led ownership consortium assesses its dugout options.

And the state of the Howe mirror is an option while Paolo Fonseca, Frank Lampard and former Dortmund boss Lucian Favre have all been mentioned.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is highly regarded by Newcastle’s hierarchy, but they are keen not to make enemies by poaching managers working at rival clubs.

Newcastle are set to decide Bruce’s future with the club’s board following the club’s 3-2 home loss to Spurs on Sunday. There are, however, differing opinions on who the new man should be.

Either way, the Magpies should finally wield the ax to give the new man the chance to properly prepare for Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace.

The club are winless, 19th in the table and have conceded 19 goals – more than any other Premier League club – after eight games.
