Dave Chappelle says he “won’t comply with anyone’s requests” and slams Hannah Gadsby – .

Dave Chappelle responded to the backlash from his latest Netflix special, The closest.
In the comedy special, Chappelle declares herself “TERF Team” (which means trans-exclusionist radical feminist) and makes a number of jokes that many have considered “transphobic”.

In a video posted to Instagram, Chappelle responded to criticism and doubled down on her stance: “To the transgender community, I’m more than willing to give you an audience, but you won’t call me. I do not bend to anyone’s demands.

He went on to say, “And if you want to meet me, I’m more than willing to do so, but I have certain conditions. First of all, you can’t come if you haven’t watched my special from start to finish. You have to come to a place of my choosing at a time of my choosing, and third, you have to admit that Hannah Gadsby is no fun.

The remark to Gadsby is in response to the comedian’s recent criticism of Chappelle and Netflix for airing the special she described as “hate speech.”

In the video, Chappelle also thanks Netflix boss Ted Sarandos for his support: “Thank God for Ted Sarandos and Netflix, he’s the only one who hasn’t canceled me yet. “

Sarandos’ support for Chappelle drew much criticism from Netflix staff who staged a walkout from the company last week in protest.

The CEO then apologized for not factoring in the feelings of trans people: rationalizing whatever pain they were going through. I say this because I respect them deeply and I love their contribution to Netflix. They were in pain, and I should have recognized it first.

Chappelle’s special has also been criticized by other figures such as Dan Levy and Jill Soloway.
