Curry’s triple-double leads Warriors to Lakers on opening night – .

LOS ANGELES – Stephen Curry had 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Golden State Warriors, who went from 10 points to stunning LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the new look of the Los Angeles Lakers 121-114 in a opening game Tuesday night.
The loss marred opening night in Hollywood, where superstars James and Davis played brilliantly for three quarters before the Lakers cooled off in the fourth.

James had 34 points and 11 rebounds, while Davis had 30 points and 11 rebounds. No other Lakers have scored in double digits.

Russell Westbrook shot just 4 for 13 for eight points on his debut with the Lakers.

The Lakers had an 84-74 lead late in the third quarter after a Kent Bazemore jumper, but the Warriors slowly closed the gap.

Curry made three free throws in the dying seconds of the third quarter after being fouled by taking a 3-runner, and Jordan Poole and Damion Lee hit 3 runs early in the fourth. Poole’s layup with 9:17 left put the Warriors in the lead at 91-90, and he finished with 20 points. The Warriors widened their lead to 98-90 before the Lakers closed twice in less than two points.

But Curry and Nemanja Bjelica each hit 3 points to give the Warriors some breathing space. Bjelica had 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Lee also scored 15 points.

Davis and James dominated for much of the game while welcoming a slew of new teammates including LA native and former Westbrook League MVP Carmelo Anthony, Rajon Rondo, Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan.

LA, who won the NBA title in the bubble in October 2020, retooled after losing to the Phoenix Suns in the first round of last season’s playoffs. The Lakers have only kept three players _ James, Davis and Talen Horton-Tucker, who came out with a thumb injury.

James and Davis did 3-point and fallaway jumpers. In a remarkable streak, James saved a stray pass and sent it to Davis, who brought it home for a 68-61 lead with 7:51 left in the third quarter.

The Lakers, who went 0-6 in the preseason, were leading 59-53 at halftime.
