Bellinger’s series-modified three-point homerun came on a 96 mph fastball that was well over the zone. Rather than take the field for the ball two, Bellinger clubbed it to 399 feet down center right, and in doing so, he erased a 5-2 deficit with one stroke and kept the Dodgers’ attempt alive. repeat as World Series champions.
The Dodgers took a lead in the first inning with Corey Seager’s two-run homerun against Braves starter Charlie Morton. The 2-0 lead lasted until the fourth inning when the Braves scored four points on the board at the expense of LA starter Walker Buehler. Buehler had pitched well until a Gavin Lux game error in the middle of the field, then what appeared to be a missed three strike call preceded his unraveling. The Braves added a fifth point in the fifth inning when Adam Duvall scored at home Ozzie Albies.
All of this, however, served as a prelude to Bellinger’s heroism. Kenley Jansen worked the ninth to protect the point lead and recover his first stoppage of the 2021 playoffs.
For the Braves, Freddie Freeman came out of his NLCS crisis with three singles. With the series now 2-1 in favor of the Braves, Game 4 returns to Dodger Stadium on Wednesday.
