qChuck Liddell reportedly said he was a victim of domestic violence after being arrested and jailed on Monday.
Liddell, a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, was arrested in Agoura Hills, Calif., On domestic violence charges. In a statement released later today, “The Iceman” claims that it was his wife, Heidi Northcott, who committed the acts of violence.
“This was one of the many times I tried to keep a family mental health issue out of the public eye,” Liddell reportedly said in a statement released by TMZ. “It has become painfully obvious that this cannot continue, as our privacy has now reached a public breaking point. “
Liddell (21-9) claims to have suffered bruises and lacerations as a result of the alleged attack on his wife. Liddell further claims that he was told that Northcott would be arrested, so he volunteered to take his place. He was released from jail in Los Angeles, Calif., Around 1:46 p.m. ET / 10:46 a.m. PT Monday. TMZ reports that he “appeared to be in a good mood,” offering reporters a fist pump as he got into a Mercedes-Benz and drove away.
Liddell, 51, confirmed his second retirement from Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in March 2020. He suffered a first-round knockout loss to Tito Ortiz in November 2018 after a nearly eight-year layoff. In his prime, the former world champion beat Ortiz (twice), Randy Couture (twice), Wanderlei Silva, Alistair Overeem and Vitor Belfort, among others.
