A young child is seriously injured in hospital after being hit by a car in Liverpool.
Emergency services were called to Ritson Street in Toxteth around 5:15 p.m. today (Saturday) to report an accident involving a Nissan Micra and a child pedestrian.

The little girl was taken to the care of paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital where she is currently being treated for serious head and leg injuries.

Police closed the top of Ritson Street and a cordon was in place on the road to Thames Streets when ECHO attended the scene at around 9:30 p.m.

A matrix police van was at the scene and detectives could be seen investigating around the Nissan Micra.

Cones were also in place on the road.

The 40-year-old Micra driver stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, she was taken to a police station where she will be questioned by agents, police said.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: ‘Emergency services currently in Toxteth following a serious RTC this afternoon, Saturday 23 October.

“At around 5.15pm, we were called to rue Ritson to report a collision involving a Nissan Micra and a child pedestrian.

“The child was treated by paramedics at the scene and rushed to hospital where she is being treated for serious head and leg injuries.

“The 40-year-old Micra driver stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, she was taken to a police station where she will be questioned by officers. “
