Capitals beat Coyotes 2-0 – .

The Arizona Coyotes came to town to upset the Washington Capitals for their first victory of this regular season. Could the Caps fend off the Yotes or would Arizona finally add two points to their season tally?

We were aimless in forty minutes. John Carlson sent a single shooter to the net and he ran through a few men in front and into the net. Alex Ovechkin empties the net.

Cut for Ilya Samsonov!

The Capitals beat the Coyotes 2-0!

  • The first period was dominated by the Capitals. The Coyotes didn’t register any shots on goal until 3:06 was left in the frame. Coyotes goalie Karel Vejmelka himself enjoyed the first twenty minutes, making a handful of sparkling saves.
  • Brett Lesson made his NHL debut and, of course, that meant it was time for the rookies to play the round before the game. I thought Leason looked out of place at all and actually had pretty quick chemistry with fellow rookie Hendrix Lapierre.
  • Congratulations to Anthony Mantha’s sister Elizabeth who made his debut as a referee at Laval! Elizabeth refereed an AHL game between the Laval Rocket and the Rochester Americans.
  • The Capitals didn’t do enough in the second period. Karel Vejmelka was extremely good again, but they didn’t really test him with a ton of dangerous chances. They had a lot of pucks, but I think the Coyotes actually looked more likely to score five-on-five in the second.
  • I like Conor Sheary but what the hell is he doing on the first power play unit. Why is Peter Laviolette so afraid to give Connor McMichael or Hendrix Lapierre responsibility for special teams? Another absolutely helpless night with a man standing.
  • In my opinion, this season has been the worst I have ever seen on the ice at Capital One Arena. This is literally a disadvantage of home ice. Horrible. Yeah, I know the Wizards played last night.
  • Ten shooting attempts in forty minutes to Alex Ovechkine. I write this bullet during the second intermission in the hope that one of his next actually enters.
  • The third period was more similar to the second. Ice cream was the real winner that night.
  • It’s a Trevor van Riemsdyk appreciation ball. What a defender.
  • Ovi has points in every game this season. He got the second assist on Carlson’s goal and the team’s second goal.

The day after Halloween we’ll see the Capitals next and they’ll wage war on the road in Tampa to take on the Lightning.
