Danica Benning, the daughter of the Canucks general manager, posted on Instagram that her brother was attacked by four men as they waited for an Uber outside the Banter Hall at 1039 Mainland Street.

“I tried to push them back against my brother, then one of them choked me and threw me against the wall,” Danica Benning wrote in her post. “The police were notified but (the four men) immediately fled. My brother is in the hospital.

Vancouver Police spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin confirmed that officers were called for an assault in progress around 2 a.m. in the 1000 block of Mainland Street.

“A 25-year-old man had very visible injuries to his face. He refused any help from paramedics and told officers he would go to the hospital himself, ”Visintin said.

Danica Benning has two brothers and did not say in her post which one was attacked. However, the victim’s age matches the age of her younger brother, Nicholas.

Benning’s older brother Brandon is in his 30s and works as a scout for the Canucks.
