CHER ABBY: Can you help enlighten people on what is proper etiquette after the death of a loved one?

Jeanne Phillips

We recently had a death in our family. As we tried to say goodbye and connect with immediate family, word got out.

Less than an hour after the death, the news was all over social media. We barely had time to react, let alone inform all of our family members. Many of them learned it from these messages.

Imagine finding out that a loved one has passed away as a result of a social media post from another family member. This made an already painful situation even more so. People were hurt that they were not informed before it was posted on the Internet.
