Bayern hammered in the German Cup – .

Borussia Mönchengladbach lost to Hertha Berlin in Bundesliga this weekend

Bayern Munich suffered their biggest defeat since 1978 when they were beaten at Borussia Mönchengladbach in the German Cup second round.

Gladbach was leading 1-0 after two minutes and 3-0 in the 21st minute.

Kouadio Kone scored his first goal for the club before Ramy Bensebaini swept away Jonas Hofmann’s cross and then scored a penalty.

Breel Embolo took advantage of a defensive error for the fourth and then his second on a pass from Luca Netz.

“I am absolutely shocked. We just didn’t come, ”sporting director and former Bayern player Hasan Salihamidzic told ARD.

“We just weren’t there. We didn’t win any tackles or challenges the entire first half.

“Anything that could go wrong has gone wrong. We let ourselves be foiled in every situation – a collective blackout. “

Gladbach scored with five of his six shots on target – with Bayern having more possession and more effort than the hosts without scoring.

It was only the second defeat that Bayern, who named a first-choice team, suffered under Julian Nagelsmann and ended a streak of goals in 85 consecutive games.

Nagelsmann was at home in self-isolation, having tested positive for Covid-19.

Bayern last lost a game by a five-goal margin 43 years ago when Fortuna Düsseldorf beat them 7-1 in the Bundesliga.

Their record-breaking loss remains a 7-0 home loss to Schalke in the league in 1976 – but it was their biggest loss in a competition they’ve won a record 20 times.

Adi Hutter’s Gladbach, who has lost four of his last eight games, is in the lower half of the Bundesliga.
