White joined the Gunners this summer from Brighton on a £ 50million deal and he will face his former club for the first time on Saturday.
Arsenal travel to the South Coast in an attempt to secure five wins across all competitions as they fight to turn the season around.
White has been a regular at Arsenal since recovering from Covid-19 and Arteta tips him for big things.
“We bought him because we think he can be amazing and doesn’t have a lot of league experience yet,” Arteta said.
“He has experience with Leeds and the experience he had with Brighton for a year, so he’s not mature in that sense.
“But he has already shown his qualities and what he can do and he was selected for the national team, which is no coincidence and the way he has adapted to us is impressive, so the potential is there. Again, that’s how he can do it and help her do it.
” They [the fans] are truly united. We have two very young center-backs, usually our backline is 22, 23, 23 and 24 – which is unusual – but they have the right maturity because they have different backgrounds. I think they complement each other very well.
” The [White] knows he will be asked questions and in this league for sure because it is one of the most demanding positions to play and right now he is doing it.
“He has to defend first and whatever we’ve got is asking him to do defensively to do that, and that’s his biggest job.
“After that, we bought him because he has this ability to break lines, to move the ball forward the way we want. He has the composure and calm to make the right decision. But above all, he has to defend and I think he does it very, very well.
