SANTA FE, NM – Alec Baldwin was practicing a ‘cross-draw’ in a church pew that required pointing his gun at the camera during the prop pistol incident that left filmmaker Halyna Hutchins dead, new documents revealed .

Two new testimonies released to the public by the Sante Fe Sheriff’s Office on Sunday night describe the heartbreaking moment the 42-year-old cinematographer was shot dead inside the church building on the set of the movie “Rust” in New Mexico.

Baldwin was rehearsing the gun retrieval method on a bench in the mock church at Bonanza Creek Ranch as he aimed at the camera, while Hutchins and 48-year-old director Joel Souza stood behind.

Souza then said he heard a “loud pop” and realized that he and Hutchins were bleeding, according to an interview with police.

The director told investigators he recalled hearing the phrase “cold pistol” while preparing for the scene, indicating that the gun was not loaded and could be used. safely, but he could not recall whether the weapon, described as a “revolver” in the files, had been checked after the crew returned from a lunch break before the incident occurred.

Another witness, cameraman Reid Russel, provided additional insight into the moments leading up to the horrific tragedy.

« [Russell] said during preparation there was a shadow coming from the outside light and they had to move the camera to a different angle from Alec, ”the warrant said.

“He said Alec was trying to explain how he was going to get the gun out and where his arm would be when the gun was out of the holster,” according to the warrant.

« [Russell] was not sure why the gun was unloaded and just remembered the gun’s loud bang, ”the document states.

Souza, who was looking over Hutchins’ shoulder when Thursday’s tragedy unfolded, was shot in the shoulder and Hutchins in the chest.

« [Russel] said that after unloading the gun he remembered [Souza] have blood on his person, and [Hutchins] speaking and saying she couldn’t feel her legs, ”says the disc.

« [Russel] declared once [Hutchins] was on the ground, medics began treating her wound as she was bleeding while she was on the floor of the building they were in.

Souza told authorities Hutchins tripped back complaining of pain before being helped ashore. Hutchins was then airlifted to hospital, but could not be rescued. Souza has since been released from the hospital.

The fatal accident happened during a tense day on set following numerous issues between the film crew and the production crew overseeing the film.

Russel told police that filming was late that day and that he “had a lot of work to do” after six members of the film crew left the set in the morning over “problems. production involving payment and housing, ”the document said.

He added that the team that had moved away, which would have been replaced by non-union workers and threatened with “safety” if they did not leave immediately, had previously written a “letter to the production on the disagreements”.

Souza had also mentioned that production was late, largely because there was only one camera available after the team left.

“During the morning hours, the day started late due to a film crew quitting and they had to find another film crew to help film the film,” Souza told police.

« [Souza] said that once they hired another film crew to help them, the day took longer than usual as they only had one camera to film.

Filmmakers have traditionally used real guns on film sets, but load them with blanks instead of real bullets to avoid a similar incident.

Production on the film was halted amid an investigation into the set, and an “absolutely devastated” Baldwin was reportedly taking time out for his other projects.

No arrests were made. The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office said Sunday night that the incident “remains an active and open investigation” and that a press conference on the matter will take place on Wednesday.
