TORONTO – Air Canada announced Monday that it will offer self-administered COVID-19 tests for travelers arriving in Canada.

The federal government requires all travelers entering Canada to show proof of a COVID-19 molecular test performed within 72 hours of their flight. Air Canada says its self-administered tests, called the RT-LAMP test kit, meet Canadian government requirements and can be a convenient alternative to finding a testing facility in a foreign country.

“We are excited to offer our customers the most comprehensive suite of travel testing options that will make overseas travel easier and more predictable,” said Mark Nasr, senior vice president of product marketing. and Air Canada’s e-commerce, in a press release.

Travelers can take the portable test before boarding their return flight and can expect to receive the results digitally in under 45 minutes, according to the airline.

RT-LAMP test kits are offered in partnership with Switch Health, a Toronto-based healthcare company, and are currently only available in limited quantities to Aeroplan members for $ 149. They can be purchased from the Switch Health website or from the Aeroplan online store.

The airline also offers a portable antigen test kit for $ 79, which is not accepted by the Canadian government, but can be used to travel to the United States and other countries.
