Adil and his co-host Charlotte Hawkins invited Quentin Letts and Ayesha Hazarika to the studio to discuss Wednesday’s budget announcement, and Quentin didn’t hold back.
At one point in the conversation, Charlotte was overheard saying, “Nothing to help people with energy bills? but Quentin hastened to interrupt him.
“Wait, are you saying help ?!” Politicians are giving our money and the idea that you can just help people at no cost to others is dead wrong, ”he blurted out.
But Adil had none of that and hit back, “Why is that so wrong? If people are poor and vulnerable, shouldn’t we be helping them all? Isn’t that the idea of a society? It’s amazing you would say that. “
Adil then asked him blank: “Aren’t you willing to pay for someone worse?
Political sketch writer Quentin replied bluntly: “I think I would get a little fed up at some point, yes. “
Clearly pissed off, Adil added, “But how are we as a society then? How do you keep people from going to food banks? “
Challenging his point of view, Quentin asked Adil, “So how far are you going? “
“Well, you’re preventing people from going to food banks to begin with! Adil was fuming. “You’re preventing people from not being able to turn on their heat to start!” “
Without backing down, Quentin then said, “The heart of politics – self-reliance. “
GMB viewers were also unimpressed with Quentin’s comments and took to Twitter for comment.
“Why does that disconnected Tory jerk have air time?” None of this affects him anyway, he gives nothing. How about talking to people the budget really affects and getting their opinions. #gmb ”, one person fumed.
Another posted: “Those 4 on #gmb all screaming at each other at 6:35 am that’s ridiculous !! What’s the point of even watching? “
Someone else added: “It’s on to #BBC… I fight again in the first hour of the morning #GMB. “
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6 a.m. on ITV.
