PC Adam Zaman, 28, allegedly committed the offense on October 24 while off duty in the City of London.
The officer, who is based in the force’s eastern area command unit, was remanded in custody ahead of his appearance in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday afternoon.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said PC Zaman had been suspended from duty.
Its Professional Standards Directorate was informed and the matter was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
