Laugh when the heel is a prerequisite in WWE.

Apparently everyone from Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss to Seth Rollins and Bayley (before the injury, of course) hang out backstage smoking fun stuff with Riddle. How else to explain this company’s obsession with bad guys who lose their shit uninvited every week?

This characterization too often clashes with serious material, and it is simply unnecessary. On the bright side, more grounded babyface characters like Edge, Brock Lesnar, and Bianca Belair keep the balance. All three stars performed their roles to perfection in this week’s “Supersized” edition of SmackDown.

“Supersized” came down to an extra 30 minutes – it was an obvious ploy to hit AEW’s Rampage show hard, but WWE might not want to make the 2:30 am performance a regular thing on Friday nights. Nobody needs that to be another Raw, let’s put it that way.

SmackDown, for all its flaws, however, was a better than average broadcast. He also did a better than expected job of building towards the Crown Jewel. This just might be the best hype WWE has ever pulled off for any of those Saudi specials.

Here is all the good and the bad …
