Teachers in Israel who are not vaccinated, or who are cured and refuse to be tested, will not be able to work from October 3, the education ministry said Thursday.

In addition to being admitted to the school premises, they will also not be able to do distance learning and will not receive remuneration.

Earlier today, the director general of the Ministry of Health, Professor Nachman Ash, said that unvaccinated people put a strain on the Israeli hospital system.

Over the past few days, Israel has suffered from a shortage of ECMO machines – special ventilators capable of replacing the work of a patient’s lungs and heart – mainly due to the lack of sufficient staff to operate them.

“The shortage is mainly due to the lack of medical personnel, especially in intensive care,” Ash told Israeli news site Ynet. “We are still in the process of finding a place for everyone, but if the numbers go up we will have to make some tough decisions.

“Today, severe morbidity is found mainly in the unvaccinated; they weigh on hospitals, ”he added.

As of Thursday morning, Israel had 723 serious patients, a number similar to the previous days, including 253 considered in critical condition and nearly 200 on ventilators.

According to reports in Israeli media, there are around 50 ECMO machines in the country, currently at full capacity, with more than half of them being used by corona patients.

While more than six million people have received at least one injection and some 3.12 million have already received a booster, there are still around 900,000 people eligible for a vaccine who have chosen not to take it.

Some 5,921 new cases were identified on Wednesday, with 5.6% of the 113,000 people screened having tested positive.

The number of daily cases has varied greatly over the past two weeks due to the effect of the holidays, with the number of tests performed varying between 55,000 and 185,000. The result has been as low as 3,000 to over 10,000. virus carriers identified in a single day.

“We need to consider limiting gatherings: cabinet needs to sit down and discuss it,” Ash said. “I would cap large gatherings, including on football fields, so that there are no more than 400 people inside and 500 people outside. ”
