Two dead and one injured in Saskatchewan. First Nations shootings; police arrest suspect – .

MELFORT, SASK. – A manhunt that followed the weekend of the shooting deaths of two people in a Saskatchewan First Nation home ended with the suspect’s arrest.

RCMP said in a press release that Shawn Moostoos, 33, was arrested Monday afternoon at a house in Melfort, Saskatchewan, without incident.

Police had been looking for Moostoos since Sunday night when they said the shooting took place during an altercation over the James Smith Cree Nation, about 180 kilometers northeast of Saskatoon.

A 37-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, both from the First Nation, were killed, while another 44-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries not involving his life in danger.

Police alleged the suspect may have been armed and initially issued an emergency alert on Sunday evening, but lifted it on Monday morning.

They said the suspect was known to those who were shot.

They did not release any of their names, but said their families had been notified.

Police said they were not looking for additional suspects.
