The horrific incident took place on the northbound stretch of the A38 near Mickleover shortly before 2 p.m. on Wednesday 29 September. The collision involved three army trucks and a heavy truck, police said.
Police said the victim’s family had been notified.
Investigators urged anyone with information to come forward.
Motorists with dashcam footage have been encouraged to contact the police.
The images show that more than a dozen responders were deployed on the roadway.
Traffic was blocked in both directions for several hours on the A38 between Findern and Kingsway.
Motorists have reported long queues to Burton.
In a statement, the Derbyshire Constabulary said: “The incident, which occurred on the northbound section of the road near Mickleover at 1:45 pm yesterday (September 29), involved three army trucks and a heavy weights.
“His family knows about it and our thoughts are with them at this time.
“Detectives investigating the incident are calling on all drivers with footage from the dashcam, especially moments leading up to the incident, to get in touch. “
